The BYU Law Winter Deals Conference brings leading scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to Park City, UT to discuss the modern global economy’s most pressing legal issues. Twenty-first century markets’ unprecedented scale, complexity, and dynamism present a difficult challenge for legal institutions, which must provide stable rules that businesses can trust as they make investments while also rapidly adapting to new demands, disruptive technologies, and crises. The Deals Conference explores policies for addressing that tension in a variety of domains, from Mergers & Acquisitions to Venture Capital to Corporate Governance.
We are delighted that Vice Chancellor Morgan Zurn of the Delaware Court of Chancery will be our keynote speaker at the Conference. The Court of Chancery is the leading adjudicator of corporate governance disputes in the United States, and its decisions inform corporate policy around the world. A former Master in Chancery, Deputy Attorney General at the Delaware Department of Justice, and litigator at Morris Nichols, Vice Chancellor Zurn joined the court in 2018 and has distinguished herself as one of the most thoughtful leaders in corporate law and policy.
Conference panels will be held at the Westgate at Canyons Village, part of Vail’s Park City Mountain Resort, the largest ski area in North America.

The Global Business Law Program is an incubator for new studies and research methods, a platform for academic and private sector collaboration, and the home of an innovative curriculum for training the next generation of corporate lawyers, regulatory attorneys, and litigators.
The faculty involved in the Global Business Law Program have a wide range of professional experience, from serving as general counsel to the Fortune 500 to practicing at leading Wall Street law firms, such as Wachtell Lipton and Skadden Arps. We serve in organizations such as the American Law Institute, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section. We regularly consult with industry and share our research with regulators, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, and courts, such as the Delaware Court of Chancery.
Research supported by the Global Business Law Program runs the gamut from private equity fund contracting to the tax structure in modern IPOs to innovation in M&A deal terms to restructuring small businesses after disasters. We collaborate with colleagues at leading institutions around the world, and our research has appeared in the Stanford Law Review, the Univ. of Chicago Law Review, Management Science, and other leading journals. This work draws the attention of the financial press, and we have been fortunate to attract support from granting agencies and multinational companies.
Our students are trained for leadership through a foundational business law curriculum, specialized courses and lab simulations, and on-site experiential trainings through the law school’s innovative 1L Spring Academies and Global Law Seminars. After law school, our students practice at the most sophisticated multinational law firms in the world, at key regulators, and as law clerks in the leading business law-related jurisdictions in the world. In 2024 alone, 6 of our students will be clerking with judges in Delaware, including with the Delaware Court of Chancery, the Delaware Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for Delaware, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
